Race report

Sjoerd Bax, Jardi Christian van der Lee, Vincent Van Hemelen, Andreas Leknessund, Alan Jousseaume and Jakub Otruba form the breakaway. The six build a maximum lead of 3 minutes of which 2 minutes remain as they enter the circuit.

At the penultimate passage of the finish line, Van der Lee and Leknessund are the only riders left out front. The pair hear the bell ring 40 seconds ahead of the peloton. On the flat run towards the Côte d’Ereffe, Bax and Otruba rejoin, but once on the climb only one attacker remains: Leknessund.

Just before the Côte de Cherave, the Norwegian champion’s solo comes to an end, after which a reduced peloton tackles the final climb up the Mur de Huy.

Paul Seixas controls the climb from the front. On the steepest section, Ben Tulett, Mauro Schmid and Benoît Cosnefroy are still within touching distance, but as the climb levels out in the final few hundred metres, the Frenchman kicks again — and is gone. He wins the race with a 3-second gap over Schmid and Tulett.
